Japanese Mizuya Dansu - Meiji Period Wucai Porcelain Dating to the 19th centuryThis Japanese antique mizuya dansu chest dates from the Meiji period (1868 1912) and is constructed from hinoki wood (cypress) with keyaki (red elm zelkova) panels. It is made in the Tokyo style and the recessed brass panel handles depict the flowers with a waxing crescent moon. Mizuya were usually used in the kitchen for food and crockery storage. All the ironwork is original. The iron drawer pulls (hikite) on the front are leech (hirute) shaped
