An intimate and charming pencil and chalk drawing of a breastfeeding mother and child. Signed and dated 'February 7th 1842, W. S.', 24 by 15. 5 cm. Image. 41. 5 by 31. 5 cms overall in frame. Born in Dundee in 1800, Simson trained under Andrew Wilson, Master at the Trustees' Academy. In 1825 he signed the proposal to establish a Scottish Academy, and became one of its first academicians.
