SECR 20t 6-Wheel Brake Van Livery:Plain Brown - single veranda Stuart "Sirdar" Nº 12First introduced in 1898, the South Eastern Railways 20 ton six wheeled brake van (later Southern Railway Diagram 1558) began as a 40 strong batch with a single enclosed veranda. Following the 1899 formation of the South Eastern and Chatham Railway (SECR), the design evolved: in 1910, a further 50 vans were built with enclosed verandas at both ends, and between 1914 and 1920, earlier single veranda examples were rebuilt to a similar dual ended layout.
