Late 19th Century – 1’5 x 3’3 French art warm finishThis small tribal mat from the late 19th century was woven by Baluch weavers in the rugged borderlands of Southeast Persia or Western Afghanistan. The dynamic chevron pattern down the center panel, framed by narrow guard stripes and wide red and blue borders, is characteristic of Taimani and Mushwani tribal groups, who often favored rich brown fields and sharply geometric compositions in their weavings. Woven in all wool with a dense, earthy palette
