A stiff leaved plant, rather medium sized as Bromelias go, growing to no more than three feet wide with broad, stiff, silvery gray leaves armed with stout but moderate marginal spines. The inflorescence is taller than the foliage and is rather spindle shaped with pink bracts and white edged red flowers. A rare species in cultivation.
