Aechmea haltonii MEXICO Growing to 30 inches acrossA species of central Panama, named for its discoverer; the late Joe Halton of the Marie Selby Botanical Gardens who found his first specimen in the vicinity of El Cope. We later found this plant in several locations including Cerro Negro. A rather large grower with stiff green leaves, armed with heavy black spines. In mature specimens the leaves are margined and tipped with pink. The inflorescence is well branched, pink and green with showy red
