Dark green longitudinal stripes of variable widths, not always consistent from plant to plant and even from leaf to leaf. Bright light can add purple highlights to the foliage. Erect, red stemmed spike of flared, scarlet bracted paddles (up to 10 branches per inflorescence), turning greenish yellow at the tips, plus yellow flowers.
